An Overview Of The Ongoing Public Health Activities Of Charutar Arogya Mandal

The public health activities of Charutar Arogya Mandal are handled by the Extension Programmes Department at present. A brief description of these activities is given below :

Background:

Shree Krishna Hospital is an 800 bedded, a state-of-the-art tertiary-level hospital providing quality health care services to the community at an affordable cost. However, a major part of the diseases and illnesses do not require referral to a hospital and can be treated by trained health workers in the community (primary level) or medical officers working at peripheral health centres located near the community. Moreover, the Founder Chairman of the Charutar Arogya Mandal had the vision to ensure that the health care services provided by the Mandal should not remain confined to the hospital only, but are also extended to the community as well. Taking into consideration these two points, the Extension Programmes Department was established by the Mandal with the purpose of extending need-based preventive, promotive, and curative health services to the community at large. The department plans to operate on the principle of providing health services through a three-tier system consisting of Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary levels.

Goal and Objectives:

To work towards developing a three-tier system of health care which,

  • Addresses the healthcare needs of the community
  • Provides quality healthcare
  • Is sustainable and
  • Is replicable
  • To develop and test innovative community-based healthcare programmes that address the healthcare needs of the community
  • To develop a referral linkage mechanism between the grass root level village health workers, extension centres, and Shree Krishna Hospital (SKH)
  • To work in collaboration with the government and non-government agencies and facilitate implementation of the existing and upcoming health programmes
  • To document and disseminate the work done
